New Year's resolutions

So... here are my New Year's resolutions:

1) be more brave (see previous post)

2) keep seeing beauty, the little detail

3) bring more creativity into work
(my job: lawyer. Specialization: intellectual property law.
And this is where the good things happen:
intellectual property = law + creation = me in my element)

4) continue with this blog / post more regularly
(4 day work week, baby, .... where to find the time...?!
I'll do my best = promise to myself)

5) stop losing phones...

6) chocolate and wine: enjoy but try not to overdose

7) go with the flow (thanks Rosa for the insight)

8) appreciate all the goods things in life and accept the bad
(cliché - sorry - but has proven to keep me on the happy trail!)

9) eliminate the moth community that has taken over my closet

10) last but not least - go to at least one of the following cities:
Paris (prettiness all over) / Berlin (Lasse & Shino, cool,
Currywurst) / London (Marnix, Kim, Kerry, MORO,
Borough Market) / Stockholm (never been there, ACNE
+ 50 other reasons)

What are yours?

Shino

Shino is one of my coolest friends. She always astonishes me with her looks. What I really like about her is that she is super attentive as far as anything aesthetic is concerned.  Whether it concerns how she dresses, decorates her house or the table for diner or wraps a present. That is probably why I can relate to her so well (although my decoration of tables is usually limited to throwing in some plates and cutlery and then I wait for Daan to bring in the food.. Oh and I do like my leggings and jogging pants..) (apart from the fact that she is just a really nice person - did I tell you yet how much I appreciate people for just being nice?). It might be a Japanese thing (if so, I definitely need to go to Japan very very soon (why am I not in a plane right now???!)). We met only three times in real life (once in Berlin, once in Utrecht and two weeks ago in Antwerp), but it feels like it has been much more. Let's catch up again soon!!

p.s. I want more people on the blog!! The thing is that I am not so good in putting myself in front of someone, shamelessly taking his/her picture. I easily feel uncomfortable, especially when I need more than one photo to get the right one. It doesn't help that my Fuji X100s (yep, I changed my X100 for its younger sister a couple of months ago; very happy with it) doesn't zoom. Now I need to get really close to people to take their portraits. I'll try to be more brave and just do it. (New year's resolution #1!)

More happy bags!

Oh, how I couldn't resist the happiness... A while ago, when Daan (= lovely husband) had teared one of my Susan Bijl's bags between the spokes of his bike (= not so lovely) and I was ready for some new colors (which Susan is always happy to provide), I ordered two new nylon bags from her webshop. Apparently the bags' sizes had been changed (or I just didn't pay attention), so instead of receiving a normal and large sized bag, I received a normal and tiny little bag. The tiny little bag seemed not so useful at first, but it has turned out to be a perfect carrier for (a) swimming pants (thanks Lasse for the brilliant idea) and (b) toys (meaning that our 1-year-old (Rosaaaa!!!!) has her own Susan Bijl now). So if you're still deciding on what christmas present to buy for your friend (big or little), think of the tiny little Susan Bijl.
p.s. since the bags are are easily folded flat, they serve as a perfect mailbox present for  friends living far away. :)

CUBEBOT

I think I found the perfect Christmas gift for kids. Meet Cubebot. Cubebot was designed by David Weeks for the NY based Areaware that produces the most beautiful wooden everyday objects. As they say: "We believe that appreciation for beauty is central to what it means to be alive and want to embody this principle in even the simplest things". I could not have described my own motto in life better. :) Back to Cubebot: inspired by Japanese Shinto Kumi-ki puzzles, Cubebot is a non-traditional take on the plastic toy robot. He comes in a cube and can take dozens of poses. Already a classic as far as I'm concerned!

From the men's department

I got this woolen sweater by Maglificio G.R.P. a little while ago at c r i s, probably Utrecht's finest men's clothing shop (ok, together with Klijs & Boon, which is smaller but at least as cool). Don't you too like its color and knitted relief? It goes nicely with the orange trouser from Monique van Heist that I told you about (at least I like to think so ;) ). Adding also my comfy Nikes, I think I have found my favorite outfit for this winter. Ultra relaxed (read: so baggy that I could join a hip hop group) and super happy (burgundy + orange + red + blue + turquoise => :-)))) ). I'm wearing it almost every day and am now thinking of in sleeping in it as well.. What do you think?

A weekend in... Antwerp (2)

Beautiful art deco style interior by Gert Voorjans for Coccodrillo (a shoe shop not to be missed if you're looking for pretty, high quality shoes) (and are not restricted by some budget ;) )

A weekend in... Antwerp

I have been in Antwerp for the weekend (I know, it's only Saturday, but why not go away for the weekend during the week and come back in the weekend so you still have the weekend ahead of you before work starts again?! Isn't this just the discovery of the century??!) Anyhow, a weekend in Antwerp is not complete without a visit to Goossens, an artisanal bakery that has been there since 1884. And here you go, one of the best things of the weekend, after catching up with friends and enjoying family life: the food.

p.s. another great place for food that you shouldn't miss when in Antwerp is Fiskebar, a fish restaurant located 'op 't Zuid' (the southern part of town). Especially with good company - thanks Lasse & Shino for the lovely time!! - nothing can go wrong here. :)
